Ruth’s Vow – A Destiny Changer

Ruth 1:16-18 But Ruth said:“Entreat me not to leave you, Or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people,And your God, my God. Where you die, I will die, And there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also,If anything but death parts you and me.” When she saw that she was determined to go with her, she stopped speaking to her.

Ruth has made up her mind! She is not going home to her parents house. She has chosen Naomi’s land, her people, and her God as her own. She makes this very clear in her vow to Naomi.

We all have the opportunity to leave an impact on the lives we touch. It’s our witness that tells people about and shows His love, grace, peace, and the hope we have in Him. Based on Ruth’s vow to Naomi that includes her loyalty (faithfulness) to stay beside Naomi wherever she goes, but also to Naomi’s God, Yahweh I would say that Naomi’s witness in the good and most disastrous times of her life was powerful. So powerful that Ruth denounces her gods and forsakes her family and her Nation.

Ruth’s vow speaks remembrances of the Lords vows to each of us.

Jeremiah 24:7 Then I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the Lord; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God, for they shall return to Me with their whole heart.

The Lord says we are given a heart to know Him and makes a promise we shall be His people and He is our God! Do you feel the heart He gave you drawing you towards Him?

Psalm 139:16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Our Lord promises that we have been given a number of days before one of them ever came to be. You are unique in your gifts and He has ordained your days and given you spiritual and physical gifts to accomplish His will for such a time as NOW.

Romans 8:1-4 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

In Christ, we are set free from the law of sin and death. When the world is condemning you or in Naomi’s case of self condemnation you need to understand the freedom from sin and the consequence of death you have when you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and walk in that freedom! We are free indeed!

Vows are important. Ruth’s vow to Naomi was a destiny changer. Because of Ruth’s love for Naomi and Naomi’s powerful witness to Ruth we have the beginning of the lineage of King David who is born 1000 years before his descendant Jesus Christ! Ruth’s promise and fulfillment of her promise to Naomi and our God changed the face of the earth forever and all of eternity for those who make a vow unto the Lord.

Walk in His love, grace, and peace!
